According to a report in IMScouting Chelsea are going to pay just £1.5m for the giant Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic.
This sounds like a bit of a bargain! IM Scouting have described him as “Matic is a 6.4ft central midfielder who has been dubbed “the Serbian Patrick Vieira” in his home country. He is a left-footed central midfielder who can also play in a defensive midfield position or higher up the pitch as an attacking midfielder.
He joined MFK Kosice in 2006/2007 from Kolubara Lazarevac. Last season Matic played 28 games for Kosice and scored two goals and also picked up four yellow cards.
Scouts in Slovakia describe Matic as “a player that has impressed over the past two seasons. He has great positioning, is mobile and has great long passing.”
I have been looking around to see what has been said about him in the past and i found out that he was given a trial at Middlesbrough in Dec last year, but because he was called up to the Serbian national side, the trial was cut short, and Boro declined to take him. But the FC Kosice head of player development said to Sky Sports: “Even though we don’t want to lose Matic, it is looking more likely he will be playing in the Premiership in January.”
Matic is regarded as one of the top talents emerging from eastern Europe, and Bula is confident that Kosice’s latest prospect will make a splash on the international arena.
He boomed on Kosice’s official website: “We always knew that this player would become a star player in Europe.
“MFK Kosice’s player development programme has shown once again that players, when given the right timeframe, will become star players like Nemanja.”
EUFA.com called him “elegant”, after he was injured at the European championships. They said: The elegant left-footer from MFK Košice, who turns 21 on 1 August, broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during Serbia’s 0-0 draw with Italy in Helsingborg on Tuesday. He must undergo surgery so will be out of action for at least four weeks.
“I felt a pain after a challenge and a minute later I couldn’t walk,” said Matić, who caught the eye during his team’s Group A curtain-raiser. “I feel bad. I am very sad. I can’t explain the feeling.”
His club website (Kosice) list his favourite teams as Valencia and Liverpool!
Well, we don’t really know a lot about him, as there is not much else anywhere on the web, but i suppose for a 6ft4″, Serbian international, for just £1.5m it could be worth a gamble.
Not too bad at 1.5 I reckon, he must be given the time to adjust to the premiership.
