Chelsea Injury Update – Latest News On Diego Costa's Injury

Diego Costa

Chelsea are set to be without big money summer signing, Diego Costa, when they take on Manchester United in a crunch Premier league encounter on the 18th of April 2015.

Diego Costa who has a reoccurring hamstring injury problem which has lasted for up to a year, limped off the pitch just ten minutes after coming on against Stoke City at the weekend. Prior to the game, the Spanish International had been certified fit after he also was substituted against Hull City two weeks ago due to the same hamstring injury.

The Blues had earlier hoped that Diego Costa would only miss the London derby against bottom of the table Queens Park Rangers, but a scan carried out has shown that Costa would need more time to recover from the hamstring injury. The Brazilian who played for Spain at the world cup joined Chelsea in the Summer from Atletico Madrid for around £32 million has scored 19 goals already in his first season with the Londoners after a disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil.

His goals have propelled Chelsea to the Premier League summit where they have been all season, and after their hard fought win against Hull City and Stoke City, the blues now have 70 points and are seven points clear of second place Arsenal who have moved above Manchester City after they failed to win against Crystal Palace on Monday night.

In Diego Costa’s absence, the Chelsea fans can be rest assured that in Loic Remy, they have a capable replacement who is able to score goals for them. The Frenchman has already showed his eye for goal whenever given the opportunity to play for Chelsea and in their previous two games, Loic Remy has scored the winning goals in Costa’s absence.

While Chelsea may be looking for another striker in the summer to ease the pressure on 25- year old Diego Costa, Loic Remy has shown that he is capable of scoring goals as well, but might be on his way in the summer should the Blues get another striker. He would become the third choice striker which means his chances of playing would be significantly reduced. In recent weeks, Remy has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace to join up with former manager, Alan Pardew.
