Chelsea sign Benayoun to replace Joe Cole

It is being reported this morning in Israel that the Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has agreed to join Chelsea on a four year contract.

A few weeks ago Benayoun told the Israeli media that a deal was on the cards when he was quoted as saying: “Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool,” he was reported as saying.

“Chelsea will have to pay some £6m but I believe that in the end I’ll be moving there.”

It was thought that Chelsea had originally offered £4m, which was refused, but now it seems that a compromise has finally been reached.

The only thing that worries me about this report is that a four-year contract seems quite a long time for a 30 year-old, and how does this help the Blues reduce the average age of the team?
