I don’t know why they keep doing it, but i suppose someone has to fill up those Sunday papers with newsprint! The Mirror tonight is regurgitating a very old rumour, which has already been publicly denied by Chelsea on their official website.
The report said: Tottenham want to build on their flying start to the season by adding Joe Cole and David Wheater to their squad.
England midfield player Cole is in the last year of his contract and as yet has not agreed a new deal.
At 27, he is, in his words, approaching ìthe best five years of his career. That career was interrupted by a serious knee injury suffered in January in an FA Cup replay at Southend. He is progressing towards fitness but insists he will not be back until he is 100 per cent ready.
The comeback is being monitored by Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp. He knows Cole well. He signed him at West Ham and gave his debut when he was only 17.
Redknapp wants to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month and Cole is high on his wish list.
The fee will be around 10 million for Cole who can leave on a free transfer at the end of the season if Chelsea cannot agree a new contract with him.
I suppose now the season has started and most of the transfer deals have been done, the papers are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. In fact i am starting to feel guilty for repeating the rubbish on my website, shall i apologise now?
Sorry.
