The race to sign Eden Hazard from Lille has been one of the most talked about transfers of the summer so far. Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and top clubs around Europe wanted to land the exciting young player, but he was persuaded that Chelsea was his best option.
21-year old Hazard has spoken about his decision and his ambition for himself and Chelsea. He is certainly not lacking in confidence and doesn’t mind being compared to World Footballer of the Year, Lionel Messi.
I am happy if people see similarities between us, and being compared to Messi makes me think about what I can achieve with Chelsea, rather than the obstacles I need to overcome to get there.”
The Belgian international midfielder is a huge fan of the Premier league and was determined to play in England. Chelsea’s victory in the Champion’s league was the final thing that made him choose Chelsea over the other English clubs bidding for him. He cannot wait for the season to start and has already started to settle in with his team mates, scoring in his first pre-season game .
“Moving to England is stepping up to a different level and definitely involves more pressure but I am ready for that.”
Hazard was named the Player of the Year in France for the last two seasons and has scored 50 goals for Lille. His pace, control and trickery can unlock any defence and he promises to frighten the life out of Premier league and European defenders in the coming season.
Roberto Di Matteo wants to focus on reeling in the two Manchester clubs in the race for the title, but I am sure he wouldn’t mind lifting the Champion’s league trophy again.
