Chelsea have been following Ajax defender Gregory Van Der Wiel for some time but they will have to move quickly if they still want to sign him. Serie A side Inter Milan have offered the Amsterdam club £7 million for the defender.
According to TalkSport Radio Chelsea have been following the 23-year-old for some time together with fellow Premiership team Manchester United.
But reports from the Netherlands are that Inter are the first club to lodge a formal offer with Ajax for the Dutch international.
Van Der Wiel is looking to move abroad to gain more experience and cement his place in the national side. He helped Ajax win the league last season after a long title drought and he may feel he has achieve all he can in the Netherlands.
However Inter are only offering half of what they had hoped for the defender so Chelsea have a chance of putting in a better offer. Meanwhile other clubs are also interested including the likes of Bayern Munich and Roma.
