Liverpool were already 2-0 up but they didn’t give their supporters any heart attacks as they eased through to the next round of the Europa Cup. N’Gog scored yet another one to give Roy Hodgson a striking dilemma when Fernando Torres returns to fitness, and Steve G got his first of the season from the penalty spot.
Joe Cole was impressive on his debut and Hodgson was more than pleased by his performance: “Joe’s just desperate to play. He came here because he thought he might get the chance to start more games than at Chelsea and he is a very enthusiastic, effervescent footballer.
“The more be plays, the happier he is. He’s the type of player that wants to play every minute of every game. Whether its possible is another matter, but it’s a great attitude to have.”
But Liverpool will be happy to have had some competitive football to give them the edge for their opening League games against Arsenal next weekend.
