I found this report earlier which suggests that the Chelsea winger Joe Cole, who is out of contract this summer, is eing approached by Tottenham regarding a summer move.
The article in Footylatest said: “The Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was certain that Joe Cole would sign a new contract, but said it was an “economic issue” that was the only obstacle. This obviously means that Chelsea are not offering the talented winger the wages that he was expecting to re-sign.
The latest news out of Stamford Bridge is saying that Roman Abramovich is refusing to sanction any more contract talks or transfer dealings until after the season, which has left Cole stuck in limbo.
With that in mind, Joe’s old boss at West Ham, Harry Redknapp, has been sounding out the possibility of a reunion with him again at Tottenham. Harry has already admitted that Chelsea would be mad to let Cole go on a free transfer at the end of his contract. He said he would jump at the chance to sign him, as it would be “getting a £20m player for nothing!”
With no need of a transfer fee, Spurs could give him a massive wage to match his talent, which it appears that Chelsea are not prepared to do any more.”
This is something I have worried about for a while now. Chelsea have let Joey go into the last couple of months of his contract without making him an acceptable offer. Joe is only 28 so is hardly over the hill. I accept that it was uncertain if he would recover fully from his injury, but that is now obvious as he is playing like his old brilliant self.
I say: Don’t let him go!
***Tottenham jokes for Chelsea fans!***
