Argentina v Greece World Cup highlights

Argentina had already qualified for the knockout stages of this World Cup, so could afford to rest a few players for this match against Greece, but they still easily made it three out of three to install themselves amongst the favourites to win the competition.

Greece defended well and it took Argentina until the 77th minute before making the breakthrough, but they dominated the play for most of the game.

Argie coach Maradona took the opportunity to take a swipe at his country’s reporters who had given him a hard time as they struggled in the qualifiers.

He said: “I think we’re showing what we are able to do,” Maradona said afterwards. “Many of you were saying things. You were wrong, really wrong. There was also sometimes a lack of respect towards the players. I really believe now that the journalists who wrote this nonsense should apologise. Our players are making our country proud and we are defending the colours of Argentina.”
