Fabio Capello may rightly admit that he had lost most of his England first-team to injuries before the game even kicked off, but the much-lauded English youngsters were found wanting when they found themselves in the spotlight at Wembley.
Arsenal’s Gibbs and Walcott, Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Ben Foster were added to what looked like a makeshift England side, and they were totally outclassed by a France team led by Samir Nasri and Chelsea’s Florent Malouda.
The two goals from Benzema and Valbuena were scant reward for France’s dominance, and Crouch’s late consolation may have made the scoreline respectable, but not the performance!
England were outplayed and outclassed…….
