Germany destroy Australia and are now the team to beat!

Dubbed as the weakest team in decades, the young German squad rose to the occasion and silenced their critics trouncing the Australians 4-0. The Germans outplayed the men from down under in every department of the game and made a clear statement that they want to win this World Cup.

Only 8 minutes into the game, saw Muller do a neat pull back and create a chance for Lukas Podolski who pounced on the opening and fired in from 15 yards giving the Germans a 1-0 lead. The Germans went on the attack and in the 26th minute of the game, Philip Lahm sent in a beautiful cross and Klose did the rest to double Germany’s lead. Much was expected of Klose and he did show us that he is slowly coming back to form, which is an encouraging sign of the Germany team.

The Australians dug themselves into a bigger hole, when their star player Tim Cahill tacked German winger Schweinsteiger and got sent off. With the Australians down to just 10 men, the Germans took full advantage of the situation and went onto score 2 more goals.

Mueller scored the 3rd and goal and just two minutes later Cacau scored the 4th goal, leaving the Australian defense in tatters. The score line is a clear indicator of not only how well the Germans played but also the fact that the men from down under were not able to put up much of a fight.

Germany now tops the standings in Group D and German coach Joachim Low was extremely happy with the performance of his young team. If their captain Michael Ballack returns from injury, it will only make this Germany side a bigger threat!

Pim Verbeek, the Australian coach was disappointed with his side’s performance and said that “We were outplayed. The way we handled the game was definitely not good. We were disorganized and did not play the way we need to in order to challenge”.

The Australian press openly criticized their team’s performance. The Sydney Morning Herald was reported to have said that “More like a training game than a World Cup game. Too much pace, too much mobility, too big, too strong, too skillful. Too damn good,”

The Australians will have to go back to their board room and map out a better strategy if they want to compete in this world cup, while the Germans can be content with their performance as they have now become the team to beat!
