The referee in yesterdays “friendly” game against Platinum Stars, Jeff Selogilwe, says that if Rooney doesn’t learn to control his insulting behaviour he will definitely get sent off during the World Cup.
It is thought in England that the Man Utd striker had matured a lot and calmed down his competitive behavious, but in the recent warm-up games it has become increasingly obvious that he still has his overly aggressive nature, and Selogilwe is warning him to keep it in check.
“Rooney insulted me, he said ‘F*** you’,” Selogilwe said.
“He must learn to control his temper. He could get sent off in the World Cup, especially if he uses this kind of language.
“If he insults a referee like me, then he will use that vulgar language to other referees as well.
“Maybe the England players thought ‘This is just a friendly, we can do what we like and the referees are not that professional’.”
“It’s a shame. He is a good player when you see him on the TV, but when you see him on the pitch, he just keeps on insulting the referees,” added Selogilwe.
“To me it looks like Rooney insults people and fouls other players.
“So I was very disappointed in Rooney because he is my favourite player.”
Rooney hasn’t been redcarded for England since the last World Cup (when he stamped on Chelsea’s Ricardo Carvalho), but it seems he has come extremely close………
