Ghana carried the last hopes of Africa in the first World Cup in their continent, and the stadium was full of screaming supporters, but Uruguay were still favourites to progress to the next round.
Ghana started slowly and dourly defended in a very tight first half, until in the last kick of the half Sulley Muntari found a way past the Ghana defence to put them in front.
Ten minutes into the second half Diego Forlan scored with a brilliant free-kick to make it wide open, and Uruguay gradually took control but couldn’t find the winner. Ghana should have won it with the last kick of the second half again, when Suarez saved the ball on the line with his hand and was sent off. Asamoah Gyan had his chance to convert the penalty but sent the ball high. So extra time loomed.
In extra-time neither side looked like scoring and the dreaded penalty shoot-out arrived. Uruguay had the cooler heads of the two, so the last African representatives were finally out. But they should have won the game!
Enjoy!

Using fouls strategically is not cheating, Ghana missed their chance to score a penalty kick, and never capitalized on uruguay’s lack of players. Uruguay should’ve won and did.
